Homeschool ID cards have been a hot topic throughout the
homeschool community for awhile now. I look at it this way. Better safe
than sorry. Always be prepared. If need, prove the validity of your
homeschool.
There are times that my son is farther than an arm's length away.
I may drop him off at the library. I could send him to get a loaf of bread
while I'm getting milk. He may be waiting outside the ladies room while
I'm doing my thing. What if he's going for a bike ride around the block?
Let's face it, as they grow older, there will be times they have that
independence and we won't be there to explain "Why they aren't you in
school?"
There are homeschool websites that will gladly print out an ID for
your kid, for a fee. Here's my way of getting around that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. I crop a close up picture
2. Anchor it to an open document and page wrap it
3. Shrink it to Id size
4. Type in selected information on front
5. Skip down to next page and type in information you want on the back
(this make it easier to even it up to cut out)
6. Print out on card stock
7. Cut to desired size (make sure the front and back are exactly the
same AND make sure you allow enough room around the edges for
the laminate) *I use a paper cutter at the resource center
8. Stick glue around all four edges *not too much
9. For a tiny fee, HEAVY laminate at an office supply store
(they will even round the corners for you)
Nicholas carries this around with him when we know there's a chance
he'll need it. He'll whip it out even when I am next to him and someone
asks us "Is school out today".
If you'd like to make one and need some help, just drop me a note
and I'll see what I can do.
